Akpabio pledges NASS commitment to national security

AThe President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians of the National Assembly’s commitment to carrying out its constitutional role in the ongoing effort by various stakeholders to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.

Akpabio gave the assurance at resumption of plenary after the National Assembly recess on Tuesday.

He said the Upper Chamber would not rest on its oars in ensuring the safety of lives and property, adding that lawmakers would work to uphold the mandate given to them by their constituents.

“We have been entrusted with a mandate from our constituents because they believe we will make them proud.

“We must carry this mandate close to our hearts and carry out our responsibilities.

“This will require courage, strategy and integrity.

“We must take the result home no matter what and God will not allow us fail.

“We have a unique platform to effect change and history will not forgive us if we fail in our duty,”he said.

Akpabio assured that the 10th Senate would craft legislations that would reflect the needs of Nigerians, adding that the issue of security, social justice and other matters of national importance would be taken seriously.

The president of the senate urged lawmakers to shun partisan politics and work with the Executive in order to move the country forward.

He called for dialogue in tackling the country’s challenges, adding that the senate would continue to champion the course of the marginalised.

“We must pursue justice because injustice to one is injustice to anyone anywhere.

“We must be bold in our vision and unwavering and steadfast in our commitment.

“Let us ensure excellence so that we can leave a lasting legacy, “he said.
