Senate suspends plenary as House of Reps loses member

The Senate on Wednesday adjourned sitting in line with National Assembly tradition, to mourn the demise of Rep. Olaide Akinremi, a serving member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, made the announcement shortly before adjournment, said the former lawmaker died in the early hours of Wednesday, July 10, after a brief illness.

He also announced the suspension of committee meetings in order to honour the deceased.

Akpabio condoned with the family and his colleagues over the loss.

“On behalf of the Senate, we condole with the family, Speaker and members of the House of Representatives.

The Senate thereafter observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.

Akinremi, popularly called Jagaban, who died at the age of 51, was until his death, member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker, who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), served as Chairman House Committee on Science Research Institutions.
