Senate confirms Adepoju, DG NASRDA

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr Matthew Adepoju as Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency(NASRDA).

This followed report of the Committee on Science and Technology at plenary on Tuesday.

While presenting the report, the Chairman of the committee, Sen. Abbas Iya(Adamawa Central), said the nominee was found fit for the job.

According to him, the committee perused the credentials of the nominee as well as made enquiry into his pedigree, and found him qualified to hold the position.

He added that the nominee, with 17 years experience, was cleared by the Police and other security agencies.

“During the screening, he was asked questions about space science and showed his capability of heading the agency.

‚ÄúThere was no petition submitted to the committee against the nominee,”he said.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, thereafter put the request to a voice vote and it was approved by the lawmakers.

President Bola Tinubu on May 27, announced the appointment of Adepoju as director-general nomi we, subject to senate confirmation.

Adepoju who succeeds Halilu Shaba, was until his appointment, the Director, Strategic Space Application in NASRDA.

NASRDA is an agency of government, saddled with the responsibility of ensuring development and application of space science and technology.
