Senate confirms Argungu as PSC Chairman, two others

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr Hashimu Argungu as Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC).

This followed report of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs at plenary.

The senate also confirmed
Mr Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary of the commission and Mr Frederick Lakanu as member.

Presenting the committee’s report, the Chairman, Sen. Abdulhamid Ahmed (APC-Jigawa), said the committee found the nominees to be qualified for the various positions, adding that they were found to be persons of proven integrity.

According to him, there is no petition or security report against their nomination, adding that they were fit for confirmation.

The President of Senate, Godswill Akpabio congratulated the nominees.

He called on the senate committee on Police Affairs to ensure adequate oversight,particularly with regards to controversies surrounding the right of recruitment
between the Police Force headed by the Inspector-General and the PSC.

He said “in the last two years, we probably would have had additional 20,000 Nigerians into the Nigeria Police Force.

“But unfortunately as a result of personality clashes, the issue went as far as the supreme Court.

“They should work harmoniously towards the realisation of Mr President’s vision that Nigerians should be allowed to sleep with their eyes closed.”
