BREAKING: DSS releases NLC President, Ajaero

The Department of State Security (DSS) has released Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) after several hours in detention.

Ajaero was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, on his way to the United Kingdom for an official engagement.

Following Ajaero’s arrest, the NLC went into a closed-door meeting and demanded his immediate release, while affiliates were placed on red alert should he not be released as demanded.

The NLC Head of Public Relations, Benson Upah,  had in a statement, confirmed Ajaero’s arrest, stating that it was a “brazen act of lawlessness and intimidation.”

He said, the NLC remained resolute in its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and would not be cowed.
