Senate passes Minimum Wage Bill

The Senate has passed a bill seeking to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2019, for an upward review of National Minimum Wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

The bill expeditiously passed first, second and third reading shortly after the bill was transmitted from the Presidency as an executive bill.

The bill also seeks to reduce the period of review of the minimum wage from five years to three years.

The presidency had on July 18, announced N70,000 as the new minimum wage after a meeting between the President Bola Tinubu and leadership of the Organised Labour.
