The Senate has recalled Sen. Abdul Ningi(Bauchi Central) from the three month suspension imposed on him, following an interview he granted over allegations of budget padding.

The suspension followed a motion by the Minority Caucus of the Senate presented by the Minority Leader, Abba Moro at plenary on Tuesday.

In his presentation, Moro said the caucus was tendering an apology on behalf of the lawmaker and pleading that he be recalled to join his colleagues to continue to participate in senate proceedings.

Contributing, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, supported the motion to recall Ningi.

He commended the minority leadership for coming up with the motion, while further pleading that the senate accepted the caucus’ apology and recall the lawmaker from suspension.

He said, “to air is human, to forgive is divine.”

Sen.Victor Umeh, (Anambra Central), while also supporting the motion, pleaded with the Senate to recall the lawmaker.

He said, “he is our friend and we cherish him so much and the spirit of this motion is in line with the demand of the Senate that he tenders an apology.”

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, said “accordingly, Sen. Abdul Ningi is hereby pardoned by the 10th Senate and recalled to participate in the proceedings of the Senate.”

He thanked the minority leadership for the motion, adding that, “he is a very resourceful senator.

“This goes in tandem with the spirit of what we have done by bringing back the old National Anthem, that though we come from different states and ethnic groups, in brotherhood we stand.”

Sen. Abdul Ningi was on Tuesday, March 12, given a three month suspension for alleging the padding of the 2024 Budget.

His recall is coming about two weeks less than the period for the suspension.
