Int. Women’s Day: Senate commends women’s role in nation building

The Senate on Thursday commended the role of women in nation building.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, made this known as part of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day.

While praying God to continue to protect women and keep them in good health, Akpabio said women played vital roles in the social, political, religious and cultural life of a society.

“Without a woman we will not be here.

“No woman no nation

“We appreciate the women because they voted for us.

“We pray for our women that God Almighty will protect them, grant them wisdom, good health and sound mind.

May they continue to contribute their quota to human development, “he said.

He assured that the Upper Chamber would continue to promote women’s rights by passing women rights bills.

The International Women’s Day, marked every March 8, is a day set aside globally to celebrate women’s resilience, strength and contribution to human development.

It is also a day set aside to further push for women’s rights empowerment.

The 2024 theme is, Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.

The day is often marked with specific colours, purple; representing justice and dignity, green; representing hope and white; purity.
